Come out for a great one day Hat Tournament. All skill levels are welcome. Teams will be made up of all skill levels and will be random drawn (ie everyones name will be thrown into a hat, and teams will be picked at random)

All proceeds will go to Women in Crisis in Guelph

Overview:

We’ve gathered 6 great throwers from the Guelph Area. Many play on the MuD Touring team that is making their debut at the Nationals this year in Sherbrooke Quebec.

We’ll be covering the basic throws, forehand, backhand, hammer, huck and pull.

Why we throw them and when we throw them. Depending on skill levels we can move to into more advanced techniques like fore and back hand IO ( Inside Out ) throws. As well as strategies for handlers.

All ages are welcome. This is a free event.

We will try to have a pick up game if time permits.

The GUPA BoD has set a challenge to all GUPA Members to donate blood.  The Board of Directors will be issuing a new award at the end of season party for the team on either Tuesday or Wednesday night who has the most members who have given blood through out the season.  The contest will run from July 20 through Sept 29.

If you donate at the permanent Guelph Clinic in Guelph, make sure that you sign the donor list with your name and your team.  If you donate at a different clinic please send an e-mail to christiaan@thevanders.ca with your name, the date your donated and your team name.

Tuesday Schedule is now posted.  Just a quick note: after four weeks of regular season, the bottom team in Tier 1 will drop to Tier 2 and the bottom three teams in Tier 2 will move up to Tier 1.

An new schedule will then be created for the remaining 4 weeks of regular season.

There will be 3 weeks of playoffs beginning Sept 14th.  Tier 1 will have a standard 8 team playoff schedule and Tier 2 will have the usual 6 team playoffs with the 1st and 2nd place team having a bye into the semi-finals.

The schedule for Wednesday Night Competitive is now posted.  Please ensure that all members of your team are on your roster and that they have accepted the request to join by the captain.

Playoffs will run for 3 weeks and will begin the week of Sept 15th.  It will be a standard 8 team playoff style, with the first place team playing 8th place, 2nd vs 7th, 3rd vs 6th etc.

Hello Captains!

We will be holding a captain’s meeting for the summer season this coming Tuesday, July 13th at 6:30pm at Bobby O’Brien’s. This is a mandatory meeting, so if you cannot make it, please make sure someone attends in your place.

If you have yet to pay your league fees for the summer, you can bring a cheque with you made out to the Guelph Ultimate Player’s Association (not GUPA) for $350.

Hey Everyone!

GUPA is excited & happy to announce that pick-up ultimate games are back for the summer!

If you want to play ultimate after a long week at work & before you head out on Friday night, or if you’re sitting around Sunday afternoon with nothing to do, there will be a free pick-up game for you.

Show up around the start time & see who else does too.  Get some warm ups in, stretch & throw.  When enough people have arrived, form into teams, one in white, one in black and start.  Don’t keep score & have fun!  Play as long as you want.

Games will be Friday nights starting at 6:30 PM & Sunday afternoons starting at 2:00 PM at the only dedicated Ultimate fields in Guelph – the Old Ontario Reformatory on York Road (Near Victoria) on YRF 2 (see link below)

Please bring a white and black shirt, your disc, cleats, water, and cones if you have any.

Keep in mind that games will not be guaranteed.  It will take each of you to get others to come out to play.  All skill levels are welcome.  It might take a while for this to catch on, as there hasn’t been free ultimate in Guelph for a few years, so please be patient & keep coming out.  Tell your friends, remind them often, & make plans to play!  Hopefully we can play 7’s, but even a game of 5’s would be great to see.

Games will be on rain or shine, however, please use good judgement in lightening.

Parking:

You are encouraged to bike as parking is limited.  There is parking available on York Road (watch for signs).  Carpool if possible.
